‘Musical Eruption’ is the theme of the 2026 Hortensia Music Festival. It is dedicated to the volcanic origins of the Azores. The festival combines the forces of nature with musical creativity and explores the themes of creation, energy and transformation. Now in its eighth year, the event once again brings renowned international musicians to the island of Terceira. The varied programme of concerts and masterclasses places particular emphasis on integrating the local music scene. One of the highlights is the participation of the Austrian-Ukrainian pianist Anna Ulaieva. The programme includes, amongst other things, the world premiere of the commissioned work ‘Heimat’ (Piano Quartet No. 2) by the Portuguese composer António Pinho Vargas, whose work and creative process are at the heart of this year’s festival.
