Katharina Grosse, Warum drei Töne kein dreieck bilden (c) Albertina, Wien

01.11.2023 – 25.02.2024

German-born Katharina Grosse is one of the most important contemporary artists. Her painting captivates with the power and intensity of colour. Like wild thinking, it is experimental and unpredictable, a balancing act between chance and control. Expansion and permanent transgression of boundaries, freedom and autonomy form the cornerstones of this oeuvre.
Katharina Grosse’s vibrating colour fields cover entire architectures, objects and wide expanses of public space. Surfaces are folded and project into the third dimension. The artist often uses a compressor-driven spray gun to create fine mists of colour, hard transitions and subtle colour gradients. Light and shadow become image intensifiers.
At the Albertina, the new artwork will be created on site in the pillar hall and will thus only be visible and perceptible – not to say walkable – for this exhibition – curated by Angela Stief.
