In her work, Mari Iwamoto addresses themes such as time, existence, memory and politics. Her raw materials are often plants, seeds, soil or books. She uses these materials to express her world view or, more precisely, her sense of the world. Iwamoto’s oeuvre is divided into a philosophical-artistic narrative practice with a high degree of subtlety and meticulously sensitive work with materiality. All of this is expressed in sculptural works. The thematic starting point of the exhibition curated by Christine Lederer is a logic that shapes our present: the transformation of politics into spectacle.
