18.05.2026 – 06.06.2026
In 2026, the Calle Libre Festival will focus on the theme “IN EQUALITY” – a multifaceted exploration of social, cultural, economic, gender-based and socio-political inequalities. The title has been deliberately chosen to be ambiguous. It refers to inequality as a lived global reality whilst simultaneously alluding to “in equality” – the fundamental equality that unites us as human beings. This duality forms the conceptual core of the festival: a tension between division and unity, injustice and dignity, exclusion and belonging. The festival district is Döbling. As part of the festival, four walls in the district will be transformed through live murals by national and international artists, each of whom will explore this year’s theme artistically. In collaboration with various street artists, the festival offers a series of hands-on workshops for young people, school classes and local residents. Each workshop encourages participants to create individual designs that explore the festival theme of “transformation” and translate personal perspectives into collective visual statements. As part of Vienna Pride, the Calle Libre Festival invites you to a block party at Gleis 19, where urban space is opened up for encounters, art and shared visions. In collaboration with the Viennese collective “A PARTY CALLED JACK”, a music programme will accompany the neighbourhood’s murals, providing the live soundtrack to the festival and serving as an official partner event of Vienna Pride. Visitors can take part in guided tours of the neighbourhood and also have the unique opportunity to witness the creation of Austria’s largest street art murals at the APA Tower live.
