These vital waterways are in crisis. At the same time, they bear witness to major crises such as war, displacement, migration and environmental degradation. Using the waterways of Austria and the Western Balkans as examples, the exhibition explores the centuries-long interconnections between rivers, people and other living beings, as captured in folk songs, novels, poems and films from both regions. Can these cultural narratives help us to better understand crisis phenomena? An artistic and academic spatial installation on the Danube, Drina, Feistritz, Kutschenitza, Sava and Rječina, based on the international research project “Liminal Waterway Countercultures”, in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Graz and PPMHP Rijeka – liminalwater.uni-graz.at
