17.06.2026 – 20.07.2026

The new project by Vienna-based artist Akemi Takeya, *L’s Uncanny*, forms part of her ongoing installation and performance series *LEMONISM*, which has been running since 2017 and explores historical art movements of the 20th century. Following projects on Actionism, Dadaism, Cubism, Japonism, Minimalism and Symbolism, Takeya now turns her attention to Surrealist Automatism. As part of her performance residency at Bildraum Studio, Takeya is developing an experimental space which she conceives as a laboratory of automatism – a place where improvisation, chance and unconscious processes become central artistic tools. The installation comprises surrealist clay sculptures, lemon installations, prose poems and sketches on the theme of dreams, and explores physicality, transformation and femininity. The live performance is conceived as a hybrid, improvised action that combines movement, voice, language and drawing in the style of automatism. Research and experiments from the residency are incorporated into the presentation, as are central themes from Takeya’s artistic practice. Following the performances, there will be a discussion with dramaturg and external observer Chris Standfest.
