Victor Vasarely, the master of optical illusions, challenges the viewer’s perception in many of his works. His multifaceted body of work is more relevant today than ever: it anticipated the aesthetics of computer games by employing visual effects of the kind generated by computers today. The bold colours of his strictly geometric patterns, as well as the stark contrasts of his black-and-white paintings, remain integral to aesthetic design. The depiction of movement in art also becomes a central focus of Marc Adrian, whom Peter Weibel describes as the father of media art. In the exhibition at ALBERTINA MODERN, the works of these two exceptional artists of optical illusion are presented together and enter into a multifaceted dialogue.
