‘Read the Room’ by the artist and poet Ana María Caballero brings together key works from the fields of installation, performance, sculpture, choreography, filmic AI and literature. Together, they offer an insight into an artistic practice rooted in a fundamental conviction: language is not a fixed medium, but a living process that unfolds through the interplay of writing and reading. The exhibition takes ‘Fifty Ways of Looking at a Poem’ as its starting point. For this project, Caballero invited 50 people to read and annotate the same poem. Each version documents an individual reading process and reveals how meaning emerges, changes and multiplies through engagement with a text. The work illustrates what Caballero describes as ‘analogue generativity’: the mutual creation by readers and writers. Building on this, the exhibition unfolds a multi-layered panorama of selected works that take the poem beyond the page. Through digital, process-oriented and spatial formats, language can be experienced as a visual, performative and technological medium. For the first time, the exhibition offers a comprehensive view of the interconnections between the analogue and the digital, physicality and algorithms, and the individual poem and its countless interpretations. What becomes apparent is a body of work that does not separate these apparent opposites, but rather captures their mutual interdependence.
