Under the title ‘NEGOTIATING HUMANITY’, this year’s festival explores a present in which much of what we have long taken for granted is being shaken to its core, and the fundamental coordinates of our world are shifting and being renegotiated. The focus is not on individual crises, but on the irreversible shift in the very frameworks of reference through which politics, technology, society and humanity itself are understood. The geopolitical and hegemonic conflicts emerging alongside these transformations are escalating and becoming more entrenched. The effects of climate change observed to date are increasingly proving to be harbingers of consequences that extend far beyond the primary physical consequences of global warming. And, not least, the development of artificial intelligence has raised questions that touch upon the very foundations of society’s self-understanding and challenge our conception of what it means to be human – the human condition.
